So this means this list continues to grow in # every year? Linda in CW AZ -------Original Message------- From: Jean Richter Date: 8/17/2010 9:52:33 AM To: iris@hort.net Subject: [iris] Re: AIS: Symposium History? From the symposium voting instructions: The list of candidates was completed by combining the following lists of outstanding varieties: The 100 top varieties in last year's Symposium The tall bearded irises eligible for 2010 Dykes Medal The tall bearded irises eligible for 2010 Wister Medal The tall bearded irises eligible for 2010 Awards of Merit The tall bearded irises that won 2009 Awards of Merit The tall bearded irises that won 2009 Honorable Mentions So, the top 100 iris from the previous year's symposium are included in the current year ballot, and recent award winners are added. Note that this method, together with the prohibition against write-in votes, creates a very strong bias towards very recent varieties, and results in the gradual elimination of all historic varieties from the symposium. Because of this inherent bias I personally boycott voting the symposium.
