Great Iris Day!

Today was a great iris day. I received my HIPS welcome information and the
Spring edition of the HIPS newsletter, ROOTS. I also got another new iris
catalog. Just like everyone else on the IRIS-L, I love to get iris mail!

I'm eagerly awaiting some, new to me, old to some, siberians and a
reblooming, historic IB, ELEANOR ROOSEVELT. I'm also preparing another order
of mostly Siberians and maybe a few LA's tonight. You beardless iris lovers
on the list have succeeded in making me feel guilty if I order one more TB
(unless it is a historic, or rebloomer, or both). :) Maybe "guilty" is not
the right adjective. I just get the impression that very serious iris
growers/collectors enjoy more that just TB's. Also there is more of a
challenge (and a longer bloom season) in diversity.

Linda M., I've given up on finding the much extolled everbloomer, CRIMSON
KING, this late in the summer. I guess I will have a head start on my wish
list for next year.

I've also discovered that a new iris catalog is a powerful talisman against
traffic stoplights, bumper to bumper traffic, and trains. Usually on my way
home from work I encounter all of these delays, but not when I have a new
iris catalog or an AIS bulletin with me, like today! (Note: iris literature
doesn't have the same effect in tour buses since you aren't distracted with
driving.)

Observation for today: My 3 year old daughter commented on one of my TB
rhizomes today saying "Dad, look at that carrot!" It was kind of a
pinkish-orange colored rhizome. It's a Schreiner's with a lost i.d. Is
rhizome color indicative of flower color in any way?
