You are in an ideal locale, i.e. ME, to work on breeding dwarf irises. There
is much potential yet untapped using I. pumila, which loves the type of cold
climate you have...most of us in the south (even northern VA) cannot grow I.
pumila or irises that are heavy in pumila breeding (because it demands cold
climates). If you do not know Lucy Burton in MA, you should get to know
her...she is a real expert in this area. Clarence Mahan in VA
