I like Clarence's idea of using nastursiums in the front of the bed.
I just walked back from visiting next door where they have planted an
herb garden in front of the house. My neighbor said "What's this
flower? I love it and want to plant more of it next year." It was
nastursium and it did look great in the front of the bed. I think
I'll try it next year.
One year I grew cosmos in with the Japanese iris. It was a new bed so
there was space between the clumps and I thought cosmos would be just
the thing to fill it. Well, the JI's were getting lots of water and
frequent feedings of Miracid and the Cosmos became gigantic and tipped
over. What a mess! The next spring I dug some of the seedlings (
they did self sow) and moved them to another location where they were
more tidy.
