I'm a new iriser and just planted my first bed of about 24 plants. I'd love
some of your "children" if they'd do well in southeastern Michigan.
I do have one big problem. As I said, I planted a number of iris, one of
those package deals where you get 2 of 12 different kinds including EDITH
WOLFORD, LEMON MIST, HURRICANE LAMP, A STUDY IN BLACK, etc. etc. They were
healthy looking kids, each with a bit of leaf. So I happily laid them out,
noted their placement in my garden book and went my merry way.
Then the @($*#$$$ squirrels hit! LEMON MIST was found half chewed lying
under the maple tree, EDITH WOLFORD is gone Lord knows where and the rest
were chewed almost to the ground. My squirrels are feisty little devils
(they taunt my greyhound!). I replanted what wasn't destroyed and have
covered the bed with chicken wire.
Anyone have a good remedy for the little darlings?
