Moss in the garden

Lee De Jongh wrote that he (she?) has lots of moss growing throughout 
the garden.  In the last couple years that has become a problem for 
me, too.  I've asked around, including the Ag. Extension Service, and 
nobody can give me any help as to how to get rid of it, at least not 
a solution that is practical.  Does anyone have an answer?  How can I 
get rid of it, especially without getting rid of everything desirable 
or just drying things up.  I haven't learned how to control rain.
Thanks in advance for any practical suggestions.
