Interesting you should mention the Dr. Loomis Garden, since my father
Russell Eacker is the current president of that set of plots... He, my
mother, and the rest of the volunteers have had to put in quite a bit of
effort to keep it running. You'll all have a chance to see it in '98
when Denver has the annual convention. But he does have to work at getting
plants, and has had a number of cultivars he's asked out here in California
to send him test plants who haven't taken the time to get them to him.
So even if there were a number of test gardens, it's not likely you
would see a vast variety of plants in each... Most can't afford to buy the
plants, since they are volunteer gardens. And the cultivars probably can't
afford to send out that number of free plants.
