Interesting - I almost do the opposite. Where do you garden -
geographically and USDA Zone ?
I use spaghnum peat moss (a lot) and cow manure (aged one year)
and plant even deeper then recommended. I plant my Japanese at least
3 inches in acidic clay soil and then mulch with pine needles all year long.
My soil is low in calcium and has a ph of 5.7 and is clay loam
- perfect for JI's. I wish I were a better gardener to do them justice!
