Answer: Not sure to most of these questions.
I should find out at a potluck lunch in two weeks. I attended a regional
(region 5) meeting in the early summer and met many interesting people
(including Clarence M.) and made some contacts in the nearest local iris
society. Alas, I have no truly local iris society. My closest "local"
society is an hour and a half away, and with a three year old in tow I don't
know how active I can be in the "local" society. I think eventually I may
have to bite the bullet and start my own local iris society. In fact, I've
already begun visualizing a poster board display and membership drive at a
local plant nursery next spring/summer.
A question for you other go getters. What is the best time of year to
recruit for a local society - spring bloom season or late summer/fall
planting season? Any other tips on starting a local society? Do's and don'ts?
Does AIS have information available (perhaps in the form of a packet) to
help new local club/society organizers get off the ground?
