That may depend on how close you are to the supply.  Alfalfa doesn't like TN
weather much better than the iris do, so most of what's available is shipped
from out of state.  Because the hay is bulkier, it costs more to ship it -
around here, it can sell for up to $6 a bale (don't know the dry weight of
bales - could be anywhere from 50 to 100 #).  Processing hay into pellets
must not cost much - seems like 50# is $6 - $8.

Seems like hay has about 30% moisture content?  And I suspect the pellets are
near zero % water.

So, with all those unknowns and arithmetic figgerin', they may cost close to
the same?
