Lurkers Out of Closet

Greetings from Keith and Margaret Ann Smith who have been hanging around for
several months now and have been content to lurk. We grow about 500 bearded
irises in our flower beds...as opposed to a garden with rows. We are
members of the Fort Worth Iris Society for years and count that as one of
the joys of our lives....quite an assortment of people who really came
together and put on a great national convention in 1993...complete with buses
from hell. Our club meets monthly and we have to agree that we became
involved because several others took us under their wing and made us feel
welcome...and then put us to work.

Our meetings usually number 40 to 50 members. A good club newsletter is
another major factor in keeping members informed and thank goodness for
printed minutes in those as they helped some of the rest of us check back on
club policies, practices, etc. So therein lies my soapbox - continue to
publish every word of the AIS minutes as some of us refer back to them for
years to come.

The nutgrass info caused us to laugh as this is our month to be responsible
for the iris garden portion of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. This a.m. we
sweated profusely while weeding the beds.......nutgrass was on the march.
Roundup is our best weapon at a more concentrated strength than recommended
(3:1) and applied very, very carefully.

Loved the new look of the bulletin....and now to get back to planning that
pond. Would love to find a blue heron sitting in it some day.
