to as having a "zonal" pattern.  VICTORIA FALLS has a small white "zone"
around the beard, whereas the flower is otherwise blue.  SUKY is what I refer
to as a double zonal pattern, i.e. the flower is violet with large white
areas around the beard and in the center of the standards.  
Tom is quite right about the style color being the most important
identifier...in the case of VICTORIA FALLS  they are blue and in the case of
SUKY the styles are a darker violet than then the violet of the standards and
falls.  

I have heard quite a few quite well informed iris people call "SUKY" a
"luminata," which it is not even though the white zone on the falls is very
white and very large...the deep violet styles are the clear evidence that it
is not a luminata.  Clarence Mahan in VA
