RE: OT-BIO: Ann Pearce

Welcome Ann. There have been recent discussions on hybridizing. There is =
a =
search engine for the iris-L archives on Tom's web page. During the past =
few weeks there have been posts on the combinations and permutations of =
crosses. Have fun reading.

All of us in North America are going to be looking forward to the posts fro=
m =
Australia in the coming weeks, particularly after we've gone through our =
buying binges and planted all the new rhizomes.

Dear all,
I thought I'd better introduce myself, before I sent e-mail to
anyone else on the list (2 already). Here goes...

I am a 21-year old (birthday last week), living in Adelaide,
Australia, on a 17 acre property on the outskirts of the city. I am pretty=

new to irises and a new member of the AIS, and Reblooming section. I am
also new to the internet (last week - no coincidence). I found out about
Iris-L through Scott Aitken's article in the Apr 97 AIS bulletin (thanks
Scott), and joined last week. (I have been lurking since then - a popular
thing to do, judging by the BIOs file.)
Like most beginners, I have started with TB's and have 41 varieties=

of them, 6 of which I have seen bloom so far. As you can imagine, I'm
waiting impatiently for October which is spring here.
Mum is mad about roses (no. 500+ and rising), so there are two
hybrizing nuts in the household. I tried a few TB crosses last spring, with=

minimal success - I now find I was putting the pollen in the wrong place
(don't laugh, I'm new to this, remember, and didn't have the advantage of
internet access, then, which I do now). As a result of this mistake, what
seed I have probably won't germinate. Any information you can send me would=

be much appreciated.
                                                       Ann Pearce

P.S. If I don't respond to e-mail for a few days, it'll be because I'm going
to Sydney tomorrow for a holiday.
