Re: weird cream stuff


I've also seen this stuff.  It appears in the fall in shrub beds on campus
that have been heavily mulched with wood chips.  We've identified it as a
slime mold rather than a fungus (for those who care, slime molds are
single-celled creatures which temporarily band together in billions for
reproductive purposes--some look like fungi but they are quite unrelated).
Later it dries up and scatters countless spores.  So far as I know, it is
harmless to plants, feeding mostly on bacteria and like things in the soil.
