What about the rhizome you buy in Walmart in those little net bags that
is practically dried up with just a smidgen of green in the lower center
of the fan and all the roots dried? You take it out of the bag and rub
the roots off, because they are dead anyway and then you plant it with a
prayer. You water it and low and behold it starts to grow and in about
3 weeks you can't believe it is the same plant.
My point is that iris rhizomes are resilient. Whole leaves, half leaves
or no leaves; all roots, half roots and no roots the iris will grow and
bloom.
Of course good culture is a must!
