HIST-HIPS

The Historic Iris Preservation Society was well represented at the tenth
anniversary bash of Monticello's Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic
Plants. Five of the six speakers were charter members of HIPS.

John Fitzpatrick was the founding director of the Center for Historic
Plants and is currently the Projects Manager for 'The Garden Conservancy,
Scott Kunst runs Old House Gardens, the only mail order source devoted
solely to antique flower bulbs, the Lowes have a long-time association with
old iris and HIPS, Doug Seidel is a noted rosarian mentored by Leonie Bell
and continuing her advocacy of Noisettes and Dr. Arthur Tucker spans the
spectrum of heirloom plant cultivars.

Good company (125 attendees from Michigan to Texas and points East), good
food and speakers and 'red carpet' tours, combined for a most enjoyable day
and a half. Historic iris were featured in one presentation and were a part
of at least two other lectures.
