Hi, all:
My husband & I are both addicted to reading so I'm in & out of the
library a lot. I nearly always bring home at least one gardening book to
confound myself with & this time it was the 2-volume Random House Book
of Perennials, 1991, text & photos by Roger Phillips & Martyn Rix, both
of the UK. These books have their strengths & weaknesses but the reason
I'm mentioning them is the large section in Volume I on irises of many,
many kinds -- I had never heard of a *lot* of the species irises they
cover! Fascinating, to this person at least.
(Note to Ann Pearce -- I. unguicularis gets a paragraph & 2 photos with
mention of syns. I. stylosa & I. cretensis. No mention anywhere in the
books of Patersonia.)
Other part that's fascinating re iris is the great number of photos so
that I've finally gotten a glimpse of at least some of the species &
named cultivars & hybrids spoken of here in recent weeks, i.e., TB's
Wabash, Dusky Dancer (didn't someone want to know parents of this?
Listed as Dark Fury x Black Swan) & Jungle Shadows -- I think somebody
talked about that one.
As for SIB's talked of, there's a photo of a white (!?) form of Flight
of Butterflies and -- dare I mention it -- Caesar! No siblings, no
ghosts, just the "man" himself.
Anybody else familiar with these volumes? Comments, reactions?

elk-ridden, & there's a hint of fall already, blast & damnation
