The majority of MTBs are diploid and can be thought of as gracile Tall
Beardeds (def: gracile-gracefully slender. Always thought that shouldn't be
limited to the anthropologists!). A cross with these would duplicate the
dip-tet crosses of early hybridizing days with all the attendant
difficulties those entailed.
Of course, if you use the tet MTBs it's a new ball game -- but as most of
the tet MTBs are short, coarse and unrefined, you lose the whole idea of
grace...
