Little critters, like in squirrel's, chipmonks, field mice, etc. that will
dig and eat the seed. Protect the pots so they can't get to them. I usually
put a screen or something like that over the pots so rain, snow, etc. can get
to the seed, but the little varments can't.
Yep, leave them outside through freezing rain, snow, etc. The idea is to
plant after the first frost so they won't sprout and be frozen. The cold
weather keeps them dorment before spring. Ohio winters are very cold (lots
below zero) and this method works fine.
