I noted that Dorothy reported a rebloom of BEST BET with a gasp of surprise.
In my garden, BEST BET has been a disappointment. Not only does it show no
signs of reblooming, it appears to be struggling even to stay alive. To
give it just due, it did produce a couple of nice flowering stalks this
spring, but even then its foliage was not abundant, and throughout the
growing season the kindest description I can think of for it is, well, puny.
In contrast to surrounding varieties, it sends up few new leaves and those
that have appeared are more of a yellow-green than the bluish green I'm
accustomed to seeing. Not only that, but they're annoyingly consistent in
flopping over. So, since I haven't heard anybody else whining about BEST
BET, I'm wondering whether anyone can suggest why my particular specimen is
behaving this way. What garden culture magic could I try to at least bring
it from pathetic to respectable? Forget reblooming -- I'd be thrilled to
see a little gumption.
