Another person in your local club supports this observation.
With the proliferation of TBs , why go for a small snack when you can
have a seven course meal? <G> In reality, there is probably some truth
to that statement. A lot of the sdb and mdb grown in our club have small
rhizomes. The borer would be out of food before it accomplished the necessary
growth to pupate. A borer would also probably instictively try to remain in
the rhizome
rather than go thru soil in search of more food. Glad you brought up the point,
made me stop to wonder why!
