And I hope folks will listen to him so he doesn't have to get formally
authoritative about these matters. We are getting mighty casual these days.

One reason the list has run so well in past is that people help other members
manage the large volume of posts that roar through here from time to time by
observing the few simple list courtesies that make that possible. We are
seeing a lot of stuff posted without subject headers, a lot of what amounts to
personal stuff, some stuff which is not prefaced by enough-------and just
enough------quotation to establish a meaningful context, and some stuff which
would never have a meaningful context.

You say you are grateful to John for taking on list management duties? Then
read and observe the rules of his list and don't make him nag.
