Welcome to the list, you will find that an answer to almost any question is
available from someone on the list. There is a weatlh of information on irises
at the American Iris Society webpage at:

http://www.isomedia.com/homes/AIS/

and if you click on "Iris Classifications" underneath the picture, you will
get to an article written by Tom Little describing the characteristics (along
with the abbreviations) for many of the iris types.
