Doreen,
The rate of bloom and increase is going to vary widely depending on the
type of iris grown, the soil, climate, situation, and the gardening
practices followed, so it is difficult to come up with a standardized
answer to your questions.
For the sake of comparison, in my experience I would expect to get at least
70% bloom on a first year planting of TB rhizomes, unless there were
unusually unfavorable weather/pest/disease problems. As far as increase
goes, if you mean by "my iris are only doubling" that you are getting two
new fans for every one that you planted the previous year, then that would
be less than I would expect to see. I think an average rate of increase in
my experience would be four to five new fans per clump after one year's
growth. Naturally, it will be more on some cultivars and less on others,
even when they are growing side by side.
