Companions for iris?

This is my first time on this list and I'm hoping to get some advice about what
to plant with
bearded iris for bloom before and after the iris flower.  The nurseries tend to
tell me what to
plant WITH the iris (like pansies), but I really want to know what will work
well for ongoing color
in the garden, not just while the iris are blooming.  I also don't want to
compete with the iris'
need for space or growing conditions, since my number one main love is iris and
everything else
comes second.  I'm in Seattle so conditions are pretty optimal for flowers in
general, and I know I
have a good spot for iris.  The few I have are thriving and I'm expanding the
bed this fall with
room enough for about 15 new iris and... what?  Any ideas out there?  Thank you
