Louisianas will often have a summer period of little or no growth, and if
conditions are severe, this could become real dormancy. We've never had so
rough here that they lost their foliage, however. I find that the main
periods of growth are summer and late fall--I guess that when the swamps
dry out in summer, the plants naturally cease growing. However, with added
watering, they will continue to grow and you will have yam-like rhizomes by
fall!
