CULT: Companion Plantings --and the Archives!

From: <HIPSource@aol.com>

Greetings:

Miriam asked about effective companion plants for irises.

Hi Miriam, and welcome. There are lots of good comapanion plants for irises.
Have you found your way to the treasure trove known as the Archives yet?

The many hundreds of posts of this list and its predecessor the Iris-l are
archived and supplied with a search engine for easy access and research. The
reason I mention this is that this particular topic has been the subject of
several superb threads of conversation in the past and a wealth of information
is awaiting your retrieval. Go to:

http://www.mallorn.com/lists/iris-l/

Select the Search option. Since I know there is a lot there on this subject
and it goes back a way, I'd set the numerical option to the maximum, and check
all the years, then, as a search term, use the phrase:

Companion AND plant

You should get a lot of enties, some of them more interesting than others, and
you should be able to drift around and see the dates when the threads were
running really strong and who had what to say. Then, if you want, you can go
to the individual monthly listings and read the whole thread in sequence. I
assure you it is worth the bother.

You will also see why those of us who have been here a while tend to harp on
the importance of the Category and Subject line being correct and accurate.
Aside from helping people sort their mail so they don't bog down in stuff of
no interest to them or miss something they'd like to read, it really helps us
all navigate the Archives. If you find the Search Engine is behaving
oddly---and it does from time to time--jot down some notes on its symptoms and
nonsenses and send an e-mail from the site. Chris Lindsey makes these Archives
possible and he maintains them. However, he's off fishing at the moment so, if
you get totally lost this time, just send me a private note to my address
below my name and I'll try to help.

Happy hunting!
