Doreen,
Anner Whitehead and John Jones have already mentioned the three most likely
factors that would occur to me to explain your relative lack of bloom:
1) Planting too late in the season
2) Lack of adequate exposure to the sun
3) Deficiency of one or more vital soil nutrients
If none of these factors seems to be responsible, then following John's
excellent suggestion of contacting other iris growers in your general area
would seem to offer the best option for finding ways to improve the
performance of your irises.
