I meant to post the response below to Iris-Talk but it went to Heather and
Bernard's email address (I think). Since I responded, I have looked at the
Iris Haven website more extensively and it is great. What an incredibly
impressive and beautiful
group of irises. Amazing. I am going to spend more time at this site, for
sure.
My earlier response was:
Thanks for the kind words, Heather. The trek did make me nervous, but I
lived to collect another day. I think I will stick to fulvas in roadside
ditches, however. In truth, I did see an alligator out there, but it was
a baby in a culvert about a hundred yards from the pink giganticaeruleas.
No sign of mamma or papa.
I envy you your bloom season. We now face the dirty work of digging and
dividing. But the tables will be turned in another six months. I had not
realized (or had forgotten) that your bloom season extended over such a
long period. Ours generally lasts about five weeks, but seemed longer this
year with cool weather. (Not there's a distant memory). I hope you find a
couple of Dykes winners in the iris patch this year.
I took a brief look at your website late last night. Looks great. I am
going to take a more leisurely tour from my office later today. I have
access to a T1 connection that is much faster than my poor phone modem.
Regards to Bernard.
Patrick
