Jan,
I originally bought mine from a nursery a couple of years ago. The roots
were displayed in a large basket of moist peat moss. I chose one with
eyes showing. The roots were fresh, fleshy and moist. I moved them once
last year because it out grew the tiny space I gave them. They did well
in the transplant but I did it with a clump of soil attached. Since my
original purchase I found potted ones that were growing in 4" pots that
were in flower. The poor roots were climbing out of the edges of the
pots. I've put them in the ground and they are doing fine. I have never
tried getting alsromerias from mail order sources so don't know how they
would do. However, since they are such wonderful plants and difficult to
find in nurseries, I would try mail order sources just for more variety.
