The generosity of the iris community from around the world is simply
overwhelming! Out of sympathy for my bad bloom season and awful success
rate at hybridizing this spring (both thanks to El Nino's rains), Harald
Mathes, an aril hybridizer from Germany, sent me two packets of seeds. One
is OGB seeds, the other is OG seeds. I was absolutely floored! But what
he failed to do is provide any kinds of hints/suggestions/techniques for
planting them.
I presume that I can treat the OGB seeds just as I would TB seeds. But
what do I do with these oncogelia seeds? They've really got me scared. I
don't want to do anything wrong! Should I use any special soil? How
closely should I plant them together? How deep? Should I soak them in
water first??
Normally I'd write to Harald and ask these questions but I'm too excited
and can't wait a couple weeks to get a response!
How many years should I let them have until they germinate? Isn't it true
that it can take up to 5 years? Does the fact that these seeds are
tetraploids make them germinate any faster?
Thanks in advance!
