I don't know how other nurseries do it Dennis but when we were selling by mail
order we did not do any analysis of who was ordering otems on which we had low
stock. It was strictly firsr ordered, first served. It is a great help to a
nursery when you add a list of acceptable subs because for one thing, you just
hate to write out a refund. In order to maintain the integrity of the system I
felt that we could never play favorites. I do believe that most places operate
on
similar principles.
Once customers get the notion that your substitutions are not based on first
come
etc. they will not allow subs and the loser then is the nursery.
