Oh, I just had to stick my two cents in here...............
I order from nurseries that include extras and some that give a discount
instead of extras. I personally am usually delighted with receiving gift
irises. If it is something I already grow, I donate it to our club sale.
That's why I request delivery late July so that if I have things to donate,
our club sale is first weekend of August. In my experience, the vast
majority of nurseries send top quality bonuses, usually new or recent intros.
I am more than happy to grow these and show them off for them if that's their
intent........I personally can't afford to shell out $40.00 for a brand new
intro, much as I may desire it. Nor do I ask for them as gifts........but
when I receive one of these treasures I am most grateful........It definately
gets a choice spot in the garden. However, I usually give a
bonus/substitution list. Funny thing is......I never receive anything on my
suggestion list even though it is as long as my arm.......
But, I'm not complaining, I have received wonderful plants, excellent customer
service, prompt delivery, and generous gift irises.
Long live these hardworking iris nurserymen (and women) who work from sunup to
sundown in all kinds of weather to bring us what we most
desire.......IRISES!!!
