disappearing rhizomes

You might look into the possibility that the reason the rhizomes disappear is 2 legged creatures--as already suggested-- and the theory that gophers will not tinnel through freshly turned ground is not valid--I have seen them start into freshly turned ground--stop--because the tunnels were collapsing--come out and run across the freshly turned ground and then burrow into the ground which was not disturbed.
The mention that deer and elk will pull the plant from the ground and then drop it is very true--several winters ago when we had a very bad winter, the deer raided the club garden--which is located on some  Federal property behind a museum and not really watched carefully in the winter--they pulled the rhizomes out of the frozen ground and then dropped them--result?  Frozen rhizomes which we discovered in the Spring--some were from new plantings in the previous fall--most were plants which had been in place for several years--so---determined deer and elk can get older plants out of frozen ground--the theory that the deer will not walk across freshly turned ground is not valid--we planted MTB's at the club garden Saturday morning, watered them well, and when we went back the next day to add some more to the area, there were several huge deer prints right through the MTB bed--deer are curious critters--I sure would like to see that deer during hunting season!

re: little arrows and broken lines--since I am on digest mode, I receive a compilation of all messages one time a day--what I have noticed:

when the writer hit the button-reply to author-and the message is printed again-there are arrows there, and no arrows on the new parts, so I con scan to the new parts without rereading the old note over and over again--

at least one message and usually more than one per day is repeated- usually not from the same person--no pattern for which message is repeated

e-mail addresses do not tell where the sender is--especially aol addresses--sometimes I would really like to know where someone is--and if they are in the same zone as I am
