Elizabeth P asks...
>Is it possible to make Iris grow off season or indoors?
E. Jay Holcomb from Penn State did a study entitled 'Forcing Reblooming
Iris as a Potted Plant' in the late 80s early 90s. A condensation of his
findings were published in 'The Reblooming Iris Recorder' vol 37, Fall '90;
and vol 38, Spring 91.
Bill Smoot <Billsmoot@email.msn.com> is the webmaster for the Reblooming
Iris Society and I would guess that you will soon see that webpage join the
other Sectional webpages now published.
A goal that ALL society webmasters should work towards is furnishing a
section of their website for articles of lasting interest. [I know, I know,
I have not practiced WIHP as well as I could wish.] As luck would have it
many of the Sectional webmasters are ex editors of at least one or more
Sectional publications. [Bill Smoot was Medianite editor, I have been
either editor or graphics & layout for 'Rhizome Review' 'Newscast, Region 4
Bulletin' 'The Reblooming Iris Recorder' and 'ROOTS, Journal of the
Historic Iris Society' and there may be additional editors/webmasters of
whom I am unaware.]
Point is, we all have numerous back issues on disk, or have a good morgue,
a scanner and OCR software. One website [AIS?] could maintain a hotlinked
index which would list all available reprints and take your browser there.
Prod your favorite Sectional President to build a fire under his/her
webmaster and/or prospective webmaster to make topical reprints available.
And of course, if your favorite Section does not yet have a website up,
chat with the officers/directors of that section regarding the value of a
web presence.
Cheers,
