Earlier this year I checked with Mark Cook about growing TBs in Florida.
My niece had moved from Atlanta to Titusville, and she had taken some
pieces of her irises with her. She still had them in pots and was
wondering how to care for them in FLA. I am totally infamiliar with
growing conditions there.Switching from California to Missouri was a
challenge, but at least it wasn't long distance. Since there is so much
sand there I sugguested she dig out the area she wanted to use for iris,
put down that landscapeing material used to supress weeds, but still
allows moisture thru, then fill the area with top soil containing
compost or manure.
I guess it turned out alright. When we talked last night, she said they
came back from vacation last week to an iris in bloom. Unfortunately she
didn't know it's name and from her discription, I didn't either.
I'm hoping this is not a fluke. It would be a disapointment if the rhzs
were so happy to be out of their pots that they bloom themselves to
death.
Next year should tell what can be expected from them.
