Perhaps, as a veteran of the book business, I should note here that with some
very, very, few exceptions where it is necessary to ensure that all copies of
a new blockbuster publication hit the stores on the same day, books generally
arrive in stores one to three weeks before their official "release" date, or
"publication date". Thus, like debutantes, they have often seen some action
before the date they are officially and formally "out".
