Hi Betty,

I don't think this happens with bearded irises.  I see a lot of sib crosses 
listed in parentages of introduced varieties.  We cross a lot of related SDBs 
without ever encountering weaknesses or sterility.  It seems more likely that 
there was some damage to the seeds that caused the problem.  You probably 
should try the cross again and see what happens.
