OT: scanners

Friends  --  I'm about to replace my scanner, and would appreciate your
advice.  I work primarily from slides, so the scanner must scan slides.

So, if some of you are scanning slides and have a scanner that you like,
please tell me.  (Also let me know of any to avoid.)Besides good quality, I am
looking for speed.  The one I now have is excruciatingly slow.

These days, of course, new slides can be put on a disk at the time of
developing, but I have many older ones that need to be copied post facto, and
the scanner is the cheapest and most convenient way to do it.
