Laurie, I am sure you will get many more knowledgeable answers than mine but 
soapy water spray has always worked for me on my "inside plant companions" 
because I also have too many animal companions to use toxics (although the 
plug-in "Ultrasonic Pest Repeller" from Pet Smart works very well with with 
squirrels in the attic and mice under the porch - hmm-wonder if it will work with 
bugs?)
