Your description did indeed sound like mealy bugs as Janet said. Her
recommendation (with the URL) was excellent.
I have used the Safer insecticidal soap on houseplants and found it very
useful. Mixing up the home-made batch you made is a heck of a lot cheaper,
and undoubtedly just as effective. Don't overdo the alcohol--plant cells get
drunk, too. I've watched streaming protoplasm in the hairs of tomato stems
under the microscope as they react to alcohol. It was frightening! I
realized those cells were *alive* in the same sense I am, and perhaps just as
*aware* of their environment in some subtle way as I am as well.. Alcohol had
a whale of an effect on them!
