It seems like you may be on to something with this Neil.
One of the things I have noticed is that the zonals in
general do seem to involve the bluer expressions of
anthocyanin. (Though this may just be the case with the
ones I've seen) At least CLARENCE, TIME ZONE,CITY LIGHTS
and VICTORIA FALLS are. That would seem to point to a
modifier.
Maybe zonal x glaciata crosses would be helpful too. I do
have TIME ZONE, hopefully I can get a take with CLarence
this spring as well.
