Re: RE: OT NAMES OF IRIS

I don't think it would help. You would have to learn hundreds of prefix names.

"Dogs" in my garden are iris trying to live in a compost bin.

The Canadian Kennel Club limits breeders to 30 characters including spaces per name. The 'kennel name' or 'prefix' must be included in those 30 spaces. The number of words is not limited.

I just think it would make things easier for those of us trying to learn. It would clarify a lot.

Well for one reason, the International Code of Nomenclature used to
allow only 3 words in a name, but was recently updated to allow 4 .
(AIS is the governing body for iris registrations and adheres tot he
ISN). AIS will allow four words as of 12/1/2004. Another reason is that
there is a limit of 30 characters (not counting spaces) per name.
