AIS: REF: AIS as International Registration Authority

I would think "assigned" and "requested" probably both apply....the AIS was
certainly not adverse to accepting the role for registrations, and there does
not seem to be a problem internationally. If the AIS had said, "No, we'd
rather not," I seriously doubt there would have been a problem with the
English taking on the task.

When the day comes that bearded irises are grown in China, which surely will
come in time, the registrations from there may present some interesting
problems...transliterating Chinese--any of the various dialects and distinct
languages--into English presents, all by itself, some amazing problems.
--Witness "Peking" gradually becoming the current version of the Capitol's
name.

I love hearing Chinese spoken...but cannot imagine trying to learn it.
