Robert, this is interesting.  Unless there was DNA taken 50 and 60 years
ago, there is nothing to prove that irises from years ago of a near
identical "color" aren't being passed around from friend to friend, state to
state, and they may not be the original cultivar.  I'm sure it has happened
many a time.  The general public, and even society members I know, are not
that fanatic about the accuracy of names.

determined by its description. If a plant is lost and new crosses are made
that fit that description you have just recreated that cultivar. I bet a lot
of Iris people would find it hard to accept that concept.
