And didn't we just have a storm. I am in Richmond, about 100 miles due south
of Griff. The pundits had said a front would move through and bring weather,
and so it did.

I had been in the kitchen all afternoon making this and that to ship hither
and yon and had finally reached the point where I could take a shower and and
look forward to a nice mess of black beans and rice with a garlicky salad when
all of a sudden came crashing thunder, rolling balls of lightening, plummeting
temperatures, and a high wind blowing something that looked like perlite.
Now, I'd already Wilt-prufed all the evergreens--sprayed them with an
anti-transpirant-- but I had not yet wrapped a prized fastigiate boxwood, so quickly out
into the mess I went, barefoot, but with a plastic bag on my head, to bind my
Buxus up. Henry and LaLa D. Feerce, my ginger tomcat, watched from the door,
shaking their heads.

Having only gotten hard frost last week, and with roses still in bloom, we
fell to 10*F last night, and about an inch of snow and ice accumulated. It is
15* as I write, and they say we may see a high of 30* today, to drop back
tonight to 12*, but 66* is forecast for Thursday. And that is what you call
"freeze-thaw."

Happy Solstice, all.
