RE: Culture of Spurias


I have grown spuria with great success here in zone 4 and have shipped them to Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton  all zone 3 Canadian rating (slighly colder by USA rating) where they have thrived well, much to the enthusiasm of the gardeners there. My recomendations are to plant in regular garden soil, with 3"of soli over backs of rhizome. I ship out in September . July planting in my garden results in very high mortality. If I get a shipment in in July I keep it in the fridge until September and then plant with great survival. They don't go dormant for me.
