REB: HYB: Rebloomers in the Landscape Trade?

I am not closed to the idea of irises as "landscape perennials" or  whatever 
one calls it, but it seems to me that the problem, other than the  fact that 
bearded irises are not happy with some of the amenities the  "landscapers" rely 
on to make things look the way they want them to for some  months-- very 
heavy mulch, chemicals, and automated irrigation systems--is  one of maintenance. 
Unlike Stella, which remains presentable, if banal,  with the iris someone 
really does have to come by and cut off those spent  stalks. Beardless cultivars 
are a bit more presentable after the fact than  bearded, but the stalk/seed 
thing is still an issue.
 
You know, people seeing all this sort of "landscaping" activity in the  
public or publicly visible spaces around here is *really* impacting gardening  
conventions, especially the heavy mulch thing. Wonder if the nitrogen  in th lawn 
fertilizer which gets sprayed around counteracts the effect on the  soil of 
all that breakdown. I'm not joking.
