Based on the short synopsis you types I might see your problem.

Seems like some crosses produce some babies that get "stuck". I've had
"enough to notice" that germinate ok, start growing, then stop getting
taller, slowly make about 4 or 5 leaves that look healthy, but don't
elongate much, and then the seedling just sits there. Looking green and
fairly healthy, but bonzai <g>. If I transplant them, they die pretty
quickly. If I leave them in the germination pot, they usually takes
longer to die. I've always assumed it's a root problem, either allergic
to my intentionally non-sterile medium, or some mechanical problem that
it can't overcome.
So how many early weaklings do we have to chalk off to survival of the fittest before the strong ones start to germ? lol
