The weather factor? ---- Two years ago, several of us hybridizers here in northern Virginia experienced a dip in germination rate, although our methods of planting hadn't changed. To me, that means weather effect -- but was it the weather the seeds experienced while wintering over, or was it something the parent flowers had experienced while forming the seeds earlier? We who compared notes are spread from tidewater to mountains near the West Virginia border, but all were affected and were puzzled. -- Griff

Thanks Anner - I was just exploring, cutting and pasting, mostly from university class notes type websites, & forgot to save where I found the info.
I'm still wondering whether epigenetic factors could be expressed in seedlings from seeds formed in pods that form and mature in stressful conditions. My bet is that these seedlings could be more tolerant of those same stressful conditions, but could also be affecting/increasing germination inhibitors. Depending on whether or not that's a trait that can be turned on or off by epigenetic mechanisms.
Back a couple of years ago, before I'd heard about epigenetic factors, I ran across something about differences in germination in some crop plant depending on weather during seed ripening.
